Thoughts after our first class

Amman, you are lovely.

Today, we met with Carlene to discuss the logistics of reporting here. I’m really excited to get into the thick of it and come up with something really great. My first story will be about the gay culture in Amman. It’s going to be tricky because, as I mentioned in my previous post, being gay is “a crime punishable by death,” according to Carlene. However, there’s definitely a gay community, and it seems like it’s moving at some sort of pace. What kind of pace, I’m not quite sure. It’s too early to tell. But we’ll figure it out soon. Jess and I are already planning on going back to Books@Cafe, the gay-friendly bar we visited the other night, and to the University of Jordan to talk to the younger generation (Jessย is doing a story about the drinking culture here in Amman, which should be interesting since drinking is so taboo).

I can’t wait to investigate.
